What Does a Case Manager Do?

A Case Manager is a clinical professional who acts a client’s advocate, not only for their treatment, but for their personal issues as well. Case Managers address a wide variety of issues. At Midwest Detox Center, Case Management is an ongoing process. Our Case Managers are committed to our client’s their recovery and seek to resolve all issues that can prevent future success. One part of their role is to observe our clients as they progress through our program. Duties include advocating on behalf of the client with third parties, including the client’s family and friends, as well as law enforcement agencies, courts, and employers.

Helping Clients with Legal Issues

A Case Manager helps clients take control of their future by helping to address legal issues while in treatment. When people come to us for help and have pending legal matters, they are unable to attend court dates or abide by court mandated actions. This is where the Case Manager comes in. The Case Manager will communicate with law enforcement, state and federal agencies, and the courts. Our Case Managers act as a liaison between our detox center and authorities such as court clerks, judges, and probation officers. With the client’s consent, case managers can provide documentation about their treatment progress and any applicable completion certificates. These documents are commonly accepted by courts and can help to delay legal matters and prevent arrest warrants from being issued for missed court appearances. Addressing these legal issues provides a sense of relief for clients, allowing them to focus on their recovery and not their legal troubles.

Helping Clients with Financial Problems

Drug and alcohol addiction often lead to financial problems. Maintaining steady employment with a substance use problem can be difficult. Employment issues combined with the steady purchase of drugs or alcohol tends to cause financial problems. At Midwest Detox Center, we can assist our clients with applying for government benefits such as unemployment compensation, disability benefits, or other benefits they are eligible for. Our Case Managers can provide documentation that is necessary to complete applications for government assistance programs.

Helping Clients with Their Next Steps

In order to ensure lasting sobriety, our Case Managers discuss and coordinate each client’s “next steps” after they discharge from our Medical Detox or Residential Treatment programs.

When a client nears the end of their stay in treatment, a Case Manager will discuss the importance of continuing their recovery and working towards long-term sobriety. Our case management team will help them transition to the next level of care, provide them information about 12-step meetings in their area, and Alumni support phone numbers. The actions taken by the Case Manager is dependent on the unique needs of the client.

Case Managers Help Clients Achieve Long-Term Sobriety

At Midwest Detox Center, our evidence-based therapy offerings allow our clients to address their past, while our Case Management services help them plan their next steps. Every service we offer is designed to assist our clients live a healthy lifestyle, free from drugs and alcohol. The easiest way to help someone in early recovery maintain a sober lifestyle is to help minimize all outside stressors and. By helping to resolve legal and financial problems, we are setting up our clients for success.
