We understand that addiction treatment cannot be “one-size-fits-all,” but should be personalized for each person in our substance abuse treatment programs. One way we do this is by offering both men’s and women’s detox programs. Gender-specific groups can provide safe spaces for men and women to work through past trauma and begin to understand the root causes of addiction.

According to researchers at the National Institute on Drug Abuse, substance abuse looks different in men and women. In our women’s detox center in Ohio, we use evidence-based methods in our treatment plans. Our goal is for you to achieve lasting recovery and develop the healthy coping skills you’ll need for the future.

Why a Women’s Detox Program?

A women’s detox program is markedly different from a mixed-gender program. When you first enter Midwest Detox, you’ll notice this difference right away. One of the therapeutic modalities we use most often at Midwest Detox is group therapy. During a mixed-gender session, you might feel hesitant to speak up or reluctant to discuss certain issues that primarily affect women. However, in a women-only group, you’ll find a safe space to discuss issues like motherhood, gender in the workplace, and topics like family, children, and relationships.

Many women who struggle with substance abuse have also experienced violence or past trauma in some form, often at the hands of a partner. As difficult as this can be to talk about, working through past trauma is an important part of addiction recovery. That’s why we prioritize safety and security in our women’s detox center. Having a place to openly discuss your experiences with other women who have walked down similar roads can be life-changing. A strong network of support is also crucial for lasting recovery. In group therapy, you’ll build relationships with other women based on mutual support and encouragement.

The Advantages of a Women’s Detox Center

Since men and women have different relationships with substance abuse, their addiction treatment programs must also be different. While women are less likely to develop a problem with substance abuse, if they do, they tend to struggle with more severe addictions than men. About one-third of those who struggle with alcohol abuse are women, and women make up a little less than half of the population of individuals with an addiction to drugs. Women can also face challenges when seeking treatment, including concerns about childcare and family responsibilities. That’s why we’ve made our rehab admissions process as simple as possible: so you can receive the treatment you need to rebuild your life.

At Midwest Detox, our women’s detox center offers some advantages over mixed-gender programs. These advantages include the following:

  • Opportunities for open, honest communication in group therapy
  • An environment for recovery free from sexual tension and other distractions
  • The opportunity to develop a strong network of support with other women
  • Treatment modalities that are designed for women’s specific needs in treatment, such as working through past trauma

Don’t hesitate to get the help you need. In our women’s detox program, our caring, compassionate staff will work with you to get you on the path to recovery.
